Primate Nursery

I handsculpt these precious little monkey's out of clay. These are my own creations - I do not use any molds! My goal is to create realistic monkeys. I spend several hours/days my sculptures. The fur is hand applied with mohair, which also takes several hours to put on. Their little bodies are cloth and filled with plastic beads. They have glass eyes - which makes them come to life. Hands and feet are either painted with genisis heat set paint or chalked with the finest artist chalks. These are OOAK (one of a kind) monkeys. There is never one that can be duplicated exactly the same - not even if I tried. So, each sculpture I create will have a different and unique charcter to each individual monkey. Soft Sculptures - are needle felted out of merino wool.

What is needle felting?

Needle felting creating soft sculptures out of wool, using a barbed needle. By continuously poking/jabing/shaping your wool, with a barbed needle, you can sculpt your artwork. The barbs in the needle matte the wool and lock the fibers together. This takes many poke/jabe and hours to do! Not to mention ALOT of patience!
